History
The Epiphone G-310 was introduced in 1989 alongside the G-400, the two of which composed the G-Series at the time. For 1989, and only 1989, the G-Series guitars featured headstocks similar to (but not the same as) Gibson's "Open Book" headstock. In 1990, the headstocks were changed to the current design.
Upon introduction, the G-310 featured two Samick Vantage humbuckers with flat back covers, a Mahogany body, and a differently shaped truss rod cover with "Gibson" printed vertically.
In 1995, Epiphone began using Alder for the bodies, and in 1996 the pickups were changed to the current open-coil 700T/650R humbuckers.
In 2004, the truss rod cover was changed to the current shape with "SG" printed.
