The Epiphone Genesis was introduced in 1979. It was designed by Jim Walker and built at the Pearl (drum) factory in Taiwan (Note: some of the very fist guitars produced in 1979 were made by Matsumoku in Japan). It was the first Epiphone model to be built in Taiwan and was discontinued in 1981.

In 1979, the pickups on all Genesis models had chrome covers. 1980-1981 models featured open-coil humbuckers.
