Introduced in 2003, Epiphone's Elite series was positioned as a higher end line of guitars to be made in Japan by Fugijen and Terada. In 2004, the Elite Series was renamed the Elitist Series (this page covers both Elite and Elitist models). The Epiphone Elite/Elitist Series was discontinued in 2006.
The Elite Series guitars are distinguished from regular Epiphones by their hand-rubbed Polyurethane finishes (as opposed to Polyester), Gibson designed and built pickups, solid Maple caps, African Mahogany bodies, higher-quality electronics, German silver pickup covers finished in Nickel or 24K gold, real Abalone and Mother of Pearl inlays, and Bone nuts & saddles.
